Hi, I'm Erika the Gallery Coordinator at GIGS Art Gallery and Studios. We are asking for your support to help make our gallery sustainable by creating an online store and a unique event space.

GIGS Art Gallery and Studios is thrilled to be in a position to play a pivotal role in the development of the arts in the regional areas especially on the Vic/ NSW Boarder. 

Established 8 years ago with the support of the Wodonga City Council GIGS Gallery is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit Gallery located in the Gateway Arts Precinct on the Lincoln Causeway, Wodonga.  

With two exhibition spaces, a gallery shop, workshop space and seven studios, GIGS provides local artists with a unique opportunity to showcase and sell their works. The gallery has been fortunate in the past to receive grants that assist with the running of the space.  For GIGS to continue in the future it is critical that our Gallery become self-sustaining. To do this we envision creating a warm and inviting indoor and outdoor space and updating to modern and efficient internal systems which will allow us to establish an online store. 

It's the little things like streamlining the work for our volunteers, getting the artists paid quickly and avoiding confusion with printed and barcoded labels that will make a huge difference to our volunteers, artists and customers.   Hand written labels smear, are unclear and can cause confusion.  As much as I try, I have shocking penmanship. 

With a volunteer run shop, keeping things clear and easy for the volunteers is key to having volunteers return again and again. Without our volunteers, we can't continue operating, they are everything.

A successful campaign will allow us to invest in much-needed items such as a new printer, cataloguing system, outdoor heater, catering cart, display equipment and a projector and screen.  With these purchases the gallery can move into the 21st century with confidence, continuing to be an important platform for regional artists.   Additionally, the gallery can be utilised as a unique meeting and small events venue and begin an online gallery store continuing to extend the ways we support our artists.

Local artist Milinda Hamilton agrees.  “Without GIGS Gallery I would not have had the opportunity to have my first exhibition last year.  It’s a great space and the support was fantastic”.

We have broken down our needs into three priorities: First - Second - Third

Items considered the highest priority include equipment needed to automate our consignment shop and allow us to create an online store, as well as a few items to help with events.  First priorites include:

• Barcode Reader
• Barcode Printer
• New wifi compatible printer
• Catering cart (materials only as one of our volunteers will be providing the labour)
• Dishwasher ( to assist volunteers with cleanup)
• Updated Security System 
• Stackable Chairs

Items in our second priortiy level will include:

• Overhead projector 
• Sound System
• Screen
• Outdoor furniture
• Folding Tables & additional fixtures

Finally, if we exceed our funding, we will be able to add items to help with events such as:

• Outdoor Heaters
• Retractable Awning
• iPads to show Artists Profiles
• Benchtop Oven for catering purposes
• Tinting for the Gallery and Studio windows

Our biggest challenge would be not getting the exposure we need to gather the traction for our campaign.
